Job Shadow Reflection
On December 11 2014, I had the experience to job shadow Estela Gonzalez. She is a teacher at the school Washington Elementary here in Lindsay. What I did during the job shadow was to help out the students on anything they needed. I help Mrs. Gonzalez while the students were taking a quiz. While Mrs. Gonzalez was teaching some students I was testing some students on reading words to me. They were being time while reading the words. The reason why I choose this person to job shadow was because I like to work with little kids. I also wanted to do this because she was my teacher in second grade and I wanted her to see me how much I have grown.
What I did throughout the day was to work with students. We read together some books. Later on, it was time for them to do their test on reading some words. While they were reading the words I was timing them, they had to read at least 90 words in two minutes. Most of the students did it and they were so happy. The ones that didn’t met it I stayed with them for like five extra minutes. We practice how to read the words correctly. When I finish with all the students I had to practice with two others students that needed some help on spelling some words. With the word they had to spell I made a sentence, this helped them remember about the word.
What I learn during the job shadow was that working with students you have to have a lot of patients especially if they are in a lower grade. I like how the students in second grade work well with me. I like how most of the students listen to the instructions that I gave them to do. The one thing I dislike was that like in every class theirs some students that won’t listen in the first time, you have to repeat them the instructions more than ones. This is the reason that you have to have patients in this type of work.
I’m still interest in this job. If I had the opportunity to do another job shadow I would like to the same grade. In the future I might like to be a second grade teacher to help students succeed in their lives. Once again if you think you don’t have the patients to work with little kids, don’t take this career because you won’t be satisfied with your job and you won’t even try the best to help the learners.
